Hundreds run to ‘take back’ Vancouver Park after service for Ladner-Beaudry
The run in Pacific Spirit Park came as a somber memorial service for the jogging mom was attended by friends and family.
VANCOUVER, B.C.- Hundreds of community members ran down trails at Vancouver’s Spirit Park in a symbolic gesture to take back the park where sport personality Wendy Ladner-Beaudry was brutally murdered while jogging.
The memorial service for the murder victim was held at the Life Sciences Building on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon.
The family had requested privacy and a statement asked media members to respect the family’s wish to say farewell without being disturbed. Ladner-Beaudry, 53, was found dead near a trail at Pacific Spirit Park a week ago. Police have no clue whether she was killed by a stranger or by someone she knew.
An extensive investigation involving dozens of officers and support personnel continues.
Ladner-Beaudry was a foremost supporter of amateur sport and was part of a club that teaches children to play tennis. Her brother, Peter Ladner is a veteran politician and a journalist.
Michel Beaudry, the widower, has writen a mournful column about his wife’s death and about the loss of her friendship.
