RCMP have released a composite drawing of a suspect in a violent sexual attack on a woman in her own home in the Duncan area.

The woman was beaten and then sexually assaulted. Police have issued a public warning about the man and asked residents to make sure their homes are secure.

The man fled only after a child woke up and began crying.

Police said Wednesday that the suspect in the 4 a.m. attack on July 4th at the home in the 5500-block of Jaynes Road has a dark olive skinned complexion and he is a man in his mid-20s. He is approximately six feet tall, has spiked hair, muscular build and clean shaven face.

Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect is urged to call the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Earlier, police said they received a call from a home “that a female had been sexually assaulted with a weapon at her residence on the 5500 block of Jaynes road.”

“An unknown male entered the residence while the occupants of the residence were sleeping. A female occupant of the residence was awoken by the suspect and a fight ensued,” Police spokesman Kevin Day said.

“The victim was assaulted with a weapon, struck several times and sexually assaulted. A child woke up and as a result the suspect fled. The Victim was treated at the Cowichan District Hospital and released a short time later,” he said.

Police said residents of the area should be vigilant and remember to secure their doors and windows at night.
