Vancouver, B.C. – Police are probing the discovery of  a woman’s body inside a car owned by missing 33-year-old Burnaby woman Hong Wei Yin.

Police believe it is the body of the missing woman but will await DNA and fingerprint checks before confirming her identity.

While police did not confirm Hong Wei Yin is dead, the RCMP pulled her photos and photos of her car from their website where they had earlier issued a press release seeking information about her disappearance.

Her car was found in the 8300-block of Chester Street, an industrial, warehousing area in south Vancouver near the Fraser River.

Yin, who worked at several massage parlours in the Vancouver area, had left her Metrotown Mall area apartment building at 9:30 a.m. on July 12. She was not seen alive again.

Police issued the first press release about her disappearance on July 21 – nine days after she disappeared. The delay has not been explained.

Police had described her as an Oriental woman with black hair and brown eyes. Police said she had a scar on her left bicep and was last known to be driving a 2009 white Toyota Corolla with B.C. plates 686NHE.

“Police have learned Hong Wei Yin planned a trip back to China to visit family but never made her July 16 flight,” said a spokesperson for Burnaby RCMP in a second press release.

“ She is a permanent resident of Canada and moved from Toronto to the Lower Mainland area three years ago,” the statement said.

“Since moving into the area she has worked at several massage parlors throughout the Lower Mainland. Her most recent employment was at a massage parlor business in Burnaby where she worked for the past month,” police added.

The white Toyota was covered in blue tarp as police sealed off the 8300-block of Chester Street south of Marine Drive. The car is thought to have been in the location for several days, a source said.

This is Vancouver’s 16th homicide, Const. Jana McGuinness, Vancouver police spokeswoman said.

“A man working in the area called 911 around 9:20 a.m. to report that the vehicle had been unattended for days. A police check of the license plate revealed that the car was associated to a Burnaby RCMP missing persons file. Members arrived and searched the car, finding the body of a deceased woman in the trunk,” she said.

“Vancouver Police Major Crime Homicide investigators are heading up the investigation and liaising closely with Burnaby RCMP. An autopsy will be scheduled in the next couple of days and investigators are working to determine the identity of the victim and notify next of kin,” McGuinness added. “ The car has been taken to the police station for forensic testing.”

Police have not said if they have suspects in her disappearance.
