Don’t mess with Sgt. Miriam Booth – this Vancouver cop has award winning muscles
VANCOUVER, Aug 5 – Don’t mess with Sgt. Miriam Booth – she may well be one of the most muscular female cops in the world.
The 18-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has just won the gold medal in the usually male dominated body building event at the World Police and Fire Games being held here.
“When I heard the Games were being held in Burnaby, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to fulfill my dream, and, turning 40 years old the same year, it would be the perfect Birthday present to myself.” said the champ, who is a member of RCMP E Division strategic planning section.
Booth said she had dreamed of competing in a bodybuilding competition since she was in high school but never really got a chance.
In January, she felt heavier and more out of shape, but she was determined to be one of the competitors.
“My boyfriend was still convinced that I could do it and encouraged me to give it a try.” she said.
She began training and dieting. She had to lose 44 pounds in the space of just a few months.
In February she hired Kerry Marshall, a personal trainer in Tri-City area and by competition day had lost and astounding 44 lbs and approximately 22 % body fat in order to be ready for the event.
“It’s an amazing feeling to have accomplished a life long dream, but to have done it in such a sort time and to come home with a medal just shows how hard work, dedication and a lot of support can make dreams come true!” said Booth.
