Police evacuate parts of Langley because of noxious fumes
LANGLEY, B.C. – A police officer and two other people have been sickened by noxious fumes from two large barrels of liquid left behind a local business.
Police have evacuated businesses in the vicinity of 27000-block of Fraser Highway.
“The barrels were nearly full and are described as nearly translucent and contain a red liquid substance. There are some fumes emanating from the barrels,” said a police statement about Monday morning’s incident.
“Several businesses in the area have been evacuated as police continue to investigate. The Clandestine Lab Response Team will also be attending to assist with the investigation,” police said.
The fumes caused nausea and a burning sensation in the throat for three people, including a Langley RCMP officer.
BC Ambulance Service is attending to assess and treat people, said Cpl. Holly Marks.
“At this time, the rear alley has been blocked off and police are requesting that everyone avoid the area. Police will establish a wider perimeter as necessary as there is some concern the wind will carry the fumes and cause more individuals to develop symptoms,” she said.
