Victoria man killed in Sea Doo accident on Shawnigan Lake
VICTORIA, B.C. – A 25-year-old Sea Doo operator from Victoria is dead after a tragic accident on Shawnigan Lake.
Police said two Sea Doos were following a boat when one dived into the water. The operator struck his head on the craft.
“ Investigation revealed that two Sea Doo watercraft were ‘wake jumping’ behind a friend’s boat. One Sea Doo accelerated at a high rate of speed, jumping the wake and then ’nose diving’ down under the water where it appears the male struck his head on his own craft, causing serious injuries.
“ The second Sea Doo operator jumped off his craft immediately, to aid his friend,” said police. “The male was taken to a nearby dock where CPR was administered.”
“Vehicle traffic was closed while the male was then transported by BC Ambulance to the south end of Shawnigan Lake where he was met by BC Air Ambulance. At approximately 4:00 pm, the male was pronounced deceased.
