71% of voters have negative opinion of Premier Campbell
VANCOUVER – Most B.C. folks would like their premier to go find some other job come the next election.
A new poll by Angus Reid Strategies shows a whopping 75 per cent of those polled said they are opposed to Gordon Campbell running for office in 2013.
In fact, just four months after the B.C. election, most would kick him out of his job given a chance to vote right now.
The poll found 59 per cent strongly oppose him running again, 16 per cent moderately oppose it while only 8 per cent strongly support him running again in the next election.
In February, BC finance minister Colin Hansen introduced the provincial budget, which foresaw a deficit of $455 million U.S. Earlier this month, Hansen presented a fiscal update, which included a deficit figure of $2.6 billion U.S.
On Sept. 2, Hansen discussed the change, saying, “One year ago, who would have thought that General Motors would end up being owned by government? Who would have imagined the U.S. government taking over major banks, or the province of Alberta—debt-free for more than a decade—facing a deficit of more than $6.3 billion U.S.? (…) We now expect to return to a balanced budget in 2013.”
The Angus Reid poll found:
If an election were held today, 45 per cent would support the NDP while 31 per cent would support the Liberals.
Only 18 per cent approve of Campbell’s job performance while 69 per cent disapprove.
71 per cent have a worse opionion of Campbell in the last three months and only 2 per cent have a better view.
“The plunge is in many ways driven by Campbell’s plummeting personal popularity. Only 18 per cent of respondents approve of the job he is doing as Premier, while 69 per cent disapprove. Over the last three months 71 per cent of British Columbians report that their opinion of Gordon Campbell has worsened, compared to only two per cent who say their view of him has improved,” said an analyst with Angus Reid.
In another twist, respondent were given a chance to rate several B.C. politicians as potential leaders of the next B.C. government.
Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts emerged with the best positive score with former deputy premier Christy Clark in second place. All other politicians, including Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson received a negative score.

No, BC citizens do not want Campbell and his Liberal government. He has destroyed an entire province for his own glory for the Olympics. We all saw how he and Hansen lied about the HST. This province is in dire circumstances. The huge, massive lay offs, have made thousands of BC people, destitute. I think BC, should take a page from, Alberta’s page. There is a lot of chatter, of Alberta separating from the East. At first I thought, no way, should this happen. However the thought of the Wests tax dollars staying in the West, is appealing. The very thought of, getting rid of terrible Premiers such as Campbell, made the thought more appealing. Rethinking the past, Eastern Canada, was always their own little country. Our taxes, have been funneled to the East, to very little advantages for the West. Eastern Canada, has always dictated to the West, we are always forced to bend to the East. Every Canadian, has the right to good government, and, Campbell and Hansen are not “it”. Harper, is giving Campbell a huge amount of our tax dollars, to force the HST, on to the very people who are already suffering, their loss of jobs and homes. Separating from the East, would be much better, than what we have to contend with now.
