Two surrender to police after fatal hit-and-run in Coquitlam
COQUITLAM, BC – Two people who fled the scene after a fatal two-vehicle accident have turned themselves in to police.
The accident occurred just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Oxford Street, Port Coquitlam. A grey GMC Yukon Denali collided with a grey Pontiac Sunfire.
“Of the four men in the Pontiac Sunbird, one died at the scene, and three were injured. The name of the 26 year old Coquitlam man who died at the scene is being withheld out of respect for the family,” police said.
“The three injured were taken to hospital and are in stable condition,” said Cst. Brigitte Goguen.
Moments after the accident, the two men in the GMC Yukon fled the scene on foot. Both men voluntarily turned themselves in at the Coquitlam Detachment earlier on Sunday.
“Over a dozen witnesses have been interviewed, and these interviews are ongoing,” says Goguen. “We are asking that anyone who has not yet spoken to police and who may have witnessed this incident or who have any information on this investigation to come forward at this time.”
Charges are expected to be laid.
