KABUL – Another International Security Assistance Force soldier has perished in a roadside bomb explosion in the dangerous south of Afghanistan. The soldier was killed on Monday.

An announcement by ISAF did not identify the nationality of the soldier but the general area where the roadside bomb detonated is usually patrolled by American, British and Canadian troops.

“An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died yesterday (Sept. 7) as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device detonation in southern Afghanistan,” said an announcement.

“We offer our condolences to the family and loved ones of this soldier,” said Brigadier General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson. “The situation in the south of Afghanistan is serious but our resolve to protect the Afghan population is greater than any of the challenges we face.”

On Sept. 6, three ISAF troops were killed, including two Canadians and an American. Earlier, on Sept. 4, a U.S. soldier died in Paktia province when he was struck by explosives and rocket-propelled grenades.

ISAF said the dead soldier’s relatives have been notified of the latest casualty. It is up to the individual nation to release the identity.
