Nanaimo man viciously beaten in swarming attack by teens


NANAIMO, B.C. – A vicious swarming attack by seven teens armed with sticks has left a 21-year-old badly injured.

Police said the group of seven, some wearing bandanas, used kicks, punches and sticks to leave the victim bloodied and semi-conscious.

Police were called to the scene of the attack in the 400-block of Machleary Street around 7 p.m. on Saturday by a citizen.

He  saw “upwards of seven males, many wearing bandana’s over their faces kicking, punching and striking another male with a stick.”

Police were able to respond within minutes but were unable to locate any of the suspects.

“Paramedics attended and treated a 21-year-old male bleeding profusely from the attack,” police said. “He was semi- conscious and was transported to hospital. There he was treated for a broken nose, multiple bruising and kept overnight as a precautionary measure.”

The victim was unable to provide much in the way of description but did say the suspects ages ranged from 15-18 ,some were wearing white t-shirts and one had on a basketball jersey.

“At this point in the investigation we have more questions than answers so were hoping the public will be able to assist us in that regard” said Const. Gary O’Brien.
