Surrey baby suffocates after falling between bed and wall


SURREY, B.C – An eight-month-old baby girl   suffocated when she fell off a bed and got wedged between the bed and the wall.

The baby had been sleeping but somehow fell into the space between the bed and the wall

Police are no.w warning parents to make sure their children are safe in the bedding environment they create for infants.

The tragedy occurred at around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Sgt. Roger Morrow said police attended along with ambulance personnel to an address in Surrey and found the child in cardiac arrest.

“Initial reports are that the infant was put to bed on an adult sized bed and appeared to have fallen between the bed and the wall at some point where it suffered from asphyxia,” said Morrow.

“ After several attempts to revive the child, it was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” he said.

“Due to this tragic and unfortunate incident, however, the Surrey RCMP wish to remind all parents and care-givers of small children to exercise caution when considering a child’s sleeping arrangements.”

  2. My condolences go out to these parents in this very sad case. I must say though that many babies dies in cribs. My youngest has never slept in a crib, but safely in bed with me. There are safe ways to cosleep adn for may parents it is the safest arrangement they can imagine.
