Motorcyclist who died in Langley crash had right-of-way
LANGLEY, B.C. – (Update) A 27-year-old motorcyclist who was killed when his bike smashed into the side of a van backing out of a driveway had the right of way, police said Sunday night.
“Investigators believe the motorcycle had the right of way while heading southbound, when the van backed onto the roadway,” police said about the crash which occurred as the van was backing out into the road from the driveway of a home.
“There is some indication that speed may have been a factor on the part of the motorcycle,” police added.
The accident occurred at 4 a.m. Sunday in the 1300-block of 264th Street.
“An 83-year-old Langley man driving the van was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital for non-lifethreatening head injuries, and is in stable condition,” said Sgt. Don Davidson.
Police said there was no immediate indication of any alcohol involvement in the fatal crash but will wait for toxicology reports to make a final decision.
Police remained at the scene of the accident until 10 p.m. Sunday. 264th Street was closed between 16th Avenue and 8th Avenue but was reopened late at night.
The victim’s name will not be released until all his relatives have been notified.
