Warning to B.C.: Be aware of this man

Violent man - Cops want him behind bars.

LADYSMITH, B.C. – RCMP have issued a broad general public warning about a man who broke into two homes in one night and carried out a brutal sexual assault on a 50-year-old woman.

Police say their warning is not confined to Ladysmith or Vancouver Island because investigators think the man is not local.

The woman needed hospital treatment for a violent beating and sexual assault which occurred on Sept. 26 while her daughter slept in another bedroom.

“The team of investigators have spent hundreds of hours gathering and examining various pieces of evidence, as they work towards identifying the man responsible for this attack,” said Cpl. Darren Lagan.

“Our team of investigators have made significant progress over the last 14 days”, states Lagan. “As they work towards identifying the man responsible, we urge the public to remain vigilant about their home security, and personal safety.”

“This warning from police is not limited to the Ladysmith area, or Vancouver Island.

“Our investigators are examining the possibility that this man is not a local resident”, he said.

“Until such time as we identify, locate and arrest him, we are not in a position to speculate on his whereabouts. For that reason, we are broadening our public warning, and re-issuing the suspect sketch.”

He carried out two attacks in one night. In the first one he fled a home but in the second one he was extremely violent.

The second incident occurred in the 200 block of Malone Road in Ladysmith, at around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.

“In this instance, the female resident awoke to find the male in her bedroom. She was physically, and sexually assaulted. She received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries,” said Lagan.

“Her teenage child was home at the time, but did not awaken during the incident,” he said

He is described as:

•Caucasian male with a darker complexion
•Approximately 5′8″ to 6′ tall (amended)
•Short, dark hair
•In his early 20’s
•Fit, slim build
•Clothing: dark colored t-shirt (with printed pattern on the chest), blue jeans, sneakers, green colored hoodie sweatshirt.
