BRAMPTON, Ontario – Peel Regional Police have arrested a fifth person in connection with the November 2006 murder of Mervyn “Mikey” Spence and are looking for a sixth man they say is an accessory after the fact in the shooting death.

Spence, 41, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Malibu Marie Restaurant located at 2565 Steeles Avenue East in Brampton.

The shooting occurred at 4 a.m. on November 4 following an altercation during an after hours party.

Peel Police crashed an after hours party early Saturday morning at a banquet hall on Torbram Road in Mississauga where they located and arrested Everald Oliver Brissett, also known as “Bats” – a 40-year-old from Toronto.

Brissett will make an appearance in Brampton court to face a charge of accessory after the fact to Spence’s murder.

Peel police said their investigation has been protracted and since spring they have charged Marian McLean, 27, and Courtney Benjamin, 42, both of Toronto with first degree murder.

Anthony Campbell, 38, of Toronto, and Ervin Malcolm, 33, of Mississauga were both charged with being accessories after the fact.

”Investigators are now focusing their attention on the search for 31-year-old Michael Owen Popert, of no fixed address. Popert is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the offence of Accessory After the Fact to Murder. He is described as a Latin-American male, 5’10” tall, 145 lbs, with a thin build,” police said.

They said Popert is to be considered armed and dangerous. Police also said Popert’s appearance may have changed and information about his arrest could lead to a cash reward.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Michael Owen Popert is urged to contact the Homicide Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
