Boy 14, punched, slashed outside Langley school
LANGLEY, B.C. – A 14-year-old boy who is new to the Walnut Grove Secondary School was punched and slashed with a knife, police said.
“Langley RCMP are looking into an apparently unprovoked assault that took place near Walnut Grove Secondary School earlier today (Monday),” said Cpl. Holly Marks.
The boy was walking away from the school grounds during lunch when was approached by another young man who punched him in the face and then slashed him with a pocket knife.
” The student has a scratch on his side from the pocket knife,” said Marks. She told Vancouverite there was no hint that this was a case of bullying but the boy has been at this school for a very short period of time.
“The victim is new to the area, he’s only been there less than two weeks, so he wouldn’t know everyone, there are 2,000 students at this school,” she said.
Marks said no words were exchanged between the two. She said police have no motive for the attack and the young man who was victimized does not know the attacker who was thought to be approximately 17.
“The student ran from the incident to his residence where he contacted a parent, who, in turn, called police. As he is new to the area, the student was provided School Annuals in an attempt to identify the suspect, however he was unable to identify his attacker,” she said.
Walnut Grove Secondary School made an announcement prior to releasing the students for the day asking that they avoid the area on their way home. The administrative staff supervised the area as students were dismissed from school. Details will be provided to the community relating to this incident in the near future. The suspect is described as approximately 17years old, Caucasian, with dark brown / black stubble on his face, approximately 5’8”, average build and was wearing a grey ‘hoodie’.
