VERNON, B.C. Police say they had no choice but to shoot dead a pit bull that confronted them when they executed a search warrant at a residence.

“Yesterday evening (Wednesday) at approx 7:30 PM officers from the Vernon office of the Vernon/North Okanagan Detachment were executing a search warrant on a residence in the 3800 block of 32nd St looking for drugs and weapons,” explained officer Gordon Molendyk.

“When the officers entered the residence they were confronted first by a large aggressive pit-bull, the officers were left with no choice but to shoot the dog before it attacked them,” he said.

“At no time during these tense few moments were any residents of the house in danger,” said Molendyk.

Police arrested two women during the search.

They also seized a quantity of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

A 42-year-old woman is facing drug charges. Another woman, 20, is expected to be freed without a charge.

  1. I operate with these dogs and as far as animal behavior goes, I am a firm believer in nurture and training. I’ve met Jack Russell Terriers that I wouldn’t go near again, but have never had a poor knowledge with an American Staffordshire Terrier. If you’re talking about their owners- well, that’s a various story. Humans are creatures as well, and we often every have our very own tips about “moral concepts”.
