PRINCE GEORGE – Veteran cops are shocked by the violent beating of a 13-year-old boy by his parents.
Police said the boy was beaten with “instruments” and had to be taken to Prince George Regional Hospital for treatment of lacerations and wounds.
Both parents, a 44-year-old man and his 44-year-old common law wife, have been arrested and were remanded in custody by a judge until Nov. 17 when they appeared in court on Tuesday.
They are charged with assault with a weapon and aggravated assault,” said Const. Gary Godwin.
“I’ve never heard of a beating this severe by parents, officers are shocked and suffice to say that the file is being handled by our plain clothes section,” he said.
“We don’t know yet what the issue was but we know the kid was severely beaten,” said Godwin in an interview. “There was this young child and and an older one(a girl) in the house and while the older one wasn’t beaten both children are now with the ministry.”
“Both parents were in court today and they were remanded in custody until the 17th of November,” he said.
“He was beaten with instruments and we are not revealing what kind right now,” he said. “We received a phone call and we went out there and we found the child in the house and it is my understanding the beating was happening at that time.”
“It is our understanding this has gone on (for some time.),” he said.
“He was severely beaten but was released from hospital, lots of lacerations and wounds on him,” said Godwin.
Major crime detectives are continuing their investigation. It is not clear where the children’s natural mother is at this time.
