GRAND FORKS, B.C. – A 81-year-old veteran who was reported missing was found dead in his car which went over an embankment, RCMP said.

The missing man, suffering from dementia, had been barred from driving. However, he was reported missing from the Boundary Lodge, an assisted care living facility in Grand Forks located on 9th St , since midday Wednesday.

Care givers from the home reported the man missing to the Grand Forks RCMP who in turn put out an alert to all police services across BC, with details of the man having left the home in his brown 2003, 4 door Mercury Marquis.

“The Grand Forks RCMP regretfully report that Grand Forks resident 81- yr-old John Knee was located deceased, Thursday November 12, 2009 at around 12:50 pm at the scene of a single motor vehicle collision,” said RCMP.

During a search Grand Forks RCMP saw tire marks off-road on Highway 3, two kilometres west of the Paulson Bridge which led to the discovery of Knee and his vehicle down an embankment.

The vehicle had gone over a 50-foot embankment. Knee was found dead inside.
