LONDON, U.K. – One of Scotland Yard’s most extensive and longest investigations is officially over.

Scotland Yard has finally charged a man suspected of being the elusive stalker who preyed on elderly women living alone in their homes. He has been hunted since 1990 and the British press dubbed him the Night Stalker.

While authorities have probed almost 100 similar attacks and burglaries in homes in southeast London since 1990, they have only linked him positively to five rapes through prosecutable evidence.

New Scotland Yard issued a press release on Monday saying they have charged a man in the long-running Operation Mistead.

“Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command at New Scotland Yard have charged a man under the Operation Minstead investigation,” said a press release issued in London.

“Delroy Grant, 52 years old, appeared before Greenwich Magistrates’ Court this morning, 16 November, charged with the following 22 counts: Five rapes, six indecent assaults and 11 burglaries which occurred between 1992 and 2009.”

He was remanded in custody for three days – he is next due to appear at Greenwich Mags on Thursday, 19 November.

Scotland Yard did not provide further details.
