PRINCE GEORGE, B.C.  – Police have recommended a charge of second degree murder against a juvenile over the death of a 10-week-old baby in the remote community of Fraser Lake, 160 kilometres west of Prince George.

Police had been called to a home in Fraser Lake early  Sunday morning to investigate the sudden death of the infant.

“The North District Major Crime Section in partnership with the BC Coroner’s Service have forwarded a charge of Second Degree Murder against a young person believed to be responsible for the death of a 10 week old infant,” said Const. Craig Douglas.

Police are not discussing the relationship of the juvenile to the dead child nor are they willing to provide any further details. The RCMP’s major crime unit had visited the town following the death, a woman working at a Fraser Lake grocery store said.

“The young person, who’s name cannot be released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been remanded in custody until the next court appearance, Tuesday November 24th, 2009,” Douglas said.
The child is believed to have passed away on Sunday and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. Douglas, contacted Tuesday, would not discuss the case further.

A cause of death will be determined by the autopsy.

Anyone did never hear about SID: “Sudden infant death” ? Infants from birth to 6 months can die suddenly without any cause, and scientists don’t know the cause of the sudden death yet. Poor juvenile mom who is the prey of the police. She should hire a lawyer.

It sickens me. It was not SID. Why do you think she’s being charged? Get your facts straight before commenting.
