SURREY, B.C. – A 69-year-old woman is dead and her 74-year-old husband is being treated in hospital for stab wounds in what could be a case of an attempted suicide following a murder.

Cpl. Dale Carr of IHIT said Tuesday evening police have not yet interviewed the wounded man in hospital although he has been taken into custody for murder.

Carr said one  possibility investigators will look into is that it is a case of a “successful murder and an unsuccessful attempt at suicide” but he cautions it is too early to leap to concrete conclusion about what transpired at the home in the 8500-block of 164 Street.

Police were called to the home at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Police had responded to a call of a disturbance at the townhouse complex.

.

“Police entered the residence and found a 74-year-old male suffering from injuries thought to be stabbing related. British Columbia Ambulance Service attended and treated the male who was eventually transported to hospital,” Carr said.

A search of the house revealed a dead woman, aged 69. She had been stabbed to death.

”The 74-year-old male has since been arrested for murder and is currently in police custody while he remains in hospital being treated for his non life threatening injuries,” Carr said.

Investigators are still in the process of confirming a lot of details, however, at this point this is being investigated as a domestic homicide, he said.

The victims name is being withheld until notification of relatives.
