Baby Lucca Romano will be laid to rest in Argentina

By Salim Jiwa

TORONTO – Toddler Lucca Romano who died on Sunday after falling 15-metres at Toronto’s Pearson Airport will be laid to rest in Argentina, her grieving parents have decided.

‘They want to take his body to Argentina for burial because all of he family is there,” said stunned family friend Anne-Sophie Bellido in an interview from Winnipeg.

(A trust fund has now been set up. See details below.)

Lucca, 15-months-old, his mom Veronica, dad Flavio, their four-year-old daughter Massimo and the children’s grandmother were heading to Argentina on Sunday evening when the child slipped from his mom’s arms and fell.

The baby fell from a balcony on the departure level to the floor of the arrival terminal, a distance of approximately 15-metres, said Bellido who spoke with the heart-broken father of the dead child.

“The baby was in the mother’s arms and she lost her grip on him,” said Bellido in an interview with Vancouverite from her home in Winnipeg. “The dad ran downstairs and the baby was already on the floor.”

“They took the baby to hospital but he died one hour later,” said Bellido.

“They were going to Argentina where the baby was to be baptized,” she said. “They are immigrated from Argentina about ten years ago and are now Canadians.”

“They lived here in Winnipeg until November when they moved,” she said. “We were very close friends of the family.”

“I talked to the dad, they want to take the body to Argentina as soon as the body is released,” she said. “He is under a lot of shock and devastated.”

“It costs a lot of money so we have started a fund,” she said.

“Cash donations can be made in person at any TD Canada Trust Branch in Canada for ‘The Romanos’ at the following account # 6977-6326978. Cheques need to be made out to ’Guillermo Bellido in trust for The Romanos’. Please mail cheques to ‘TD Canada Trust Vista Place, 1631 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2N1Z4′”

I just saw the entire interview with Flavio Romano, father of Luca. It absolutely appals me to learn that Rogers Communication, a company that i subscribe to, would not waive the costs of cancelling the Ramano”s contract for cell phone usuage. Mr. Romano called Rogers to explain what happened to their son Luca and explained that they did not know when they were coming home from Argentina, so they wanted to cancel their subscribtion. You would think a company that makes millions! would not take this situation to help out this suffering family, Shame on you Rogers! I certainly hope Rogers re thinks their position because when my conract is up, and Rogers Communication hasent right this wrong but helping this family i will take a serious look at changing carriers! Smarten up Rogers, you ought ot be ashamed fo your selves.
