Surrey cop solves Edmonton jewelry heist

SURREY, B.C. – A sharp-eyed Surrey Mountie is being credited with solving a jewelry store heist in Edmonton.

The officer viewed pictures of the suspects supplied by Edmonton police and recognized one of the suspects as someone he’d run into.

Police have picked up Jujhar Singh Khunkhun, 22, on a Canada-wide warrant for the Sept. 27 gunpoint robbery at R. K. Jewelers in Edmonton.

Two men robbed a female employee of the store, fleeing with a substantial amount of jewelry in hand.

Khunkhun is a resident of Surrey, said Sgt. Roger Morrow.

He is charged with robbery, forcible confinement, uttering threats, breach of recognizance and possession of weapon.

He will be transported to Edmonton for trial.
