SEATTLE – Police have shot and killed accused cop killer Maurice Clemmons who brazenly gunned down four Lakewood Police officers on Sunday morning in a cafe near Tacoma.
Pierce County Sheriff’s website this morning announced that Seattle Police officers shot and killed Clemmons during a confrontation in the southern part of the city after a manhunt that lasted less than 48 hours.
Clemmons was already believed to have been wounded by one of the four officers he killed at the cafe on Sunday morning while they were sipping coffee and working on their laptops.
An initial report said an officer ran into a car that was parked. While he was checking it out, Clemmons emerged gun in hand. The officer shot him dead. However, police have not commented on this report yet.
A gun belonging to one of the police officers killed by Clemmons was found on the suspect after a Seattle cop opened fire and killed the violent con who was wanted for a string of charges including four counts of first degree murder.
Clemmons, who has a long and violent record in Arkansas but was pardoned by then Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2000, was wanted for the shooting deaths of officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens, Sgt. Mark Renninger and officer Greg Richards.
The FBI and the ATF boosted a reward for his arrest to $125,000 on Monday. Among other charges, Clemmons was wanted for child rape.
“The subject of the manhunt in the Lakewood Police officer shooting, Maurice Clemmons, has been shot and killed after a confrontation by a police officer in the south Seattle area early this morning,” Pierce County Sheriff’s office announced early Tuesday.
“One of the Lakewood officers’ gun was found on the suspect,” said a statement.
Police said they made several other arrests in the past 24-hour period as cops began a methodical hunt for Clemmons who claimed he was Jesus and the end of the world was at hand.
“There have been several other arrests in the past 24 hours, including that of the suspected get-away driver, and three other people who aided and abetted Clemmons over the past two days,” said police.
All suspects arrested are to be presented in court Tuesday or at the latest by Wednesday morning.
