Calgary woman killed after stolen truck slams two cars

CALGARY – (Update) A stolen pickup truck smashed into two other cars killing a middle-aged woman who was trapped in the back seat of one of the vehicles.

Authorities said the accident occurred at the intersection of 20 Avenue and 10th Street NW at around 11 a.m.  on Sunday. A stolen Ford pickup struck two cars.

“A red Ford F150 truck was west bound on 20 Ave NW and struck
a 2003 light blue Saturn that was southbound on 10 Street NW. This collision caused the vehicles to strike a 2009 black Nissan Sentra that was eastbound on 20 Ave NW,” police said.

“The two adult male occupants of the Ford truck fled the scene
on foot into the nearby residential neighborhood. Hawc, K-9
and District 3 members were quickly on the scene and both
were subsequently arrested and are in custody,” police added.

“Fire crews had to extricate 2 of the remaining 3 patients using the ‘jaws of life’. Crews worked hard on scene to deal with one of those patients that was trapped; a middle-aged female with severely life threatening injuries,” said a news release. “Once extricated this patient was quickly transported to Foothills Hospital for emergency trauma care.”

“An adult female passenger in the rear seat was the most seriously injured and was transported in life threatening condition to hospital
where she died shortly after arrival,” police said later.

Two other were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
