Victoria burglar beaten, held by homeowner

VICTORIA, B.C. – A homeowner beat up a burglar he found inside his home and then kept him pinned down on the front lawn of his house with the help of a neighbour.

Police said the incident occurred at a home in the 1300-block of Summit Avenue on Tuesday.

“At around 5:30 p.m. the owners returned home to find a window in the front door smashed and a man inside their residence,” said Sgt. Grant Hamilton.

“The intruder tried to flee but was confronted by the husband and a fight ensued which continued out the front door and onto the front lawn where a neighbour intervened and assisted the homeowner in holding the suspect on the ground until police arrived,” he said.

“The owner of the home suffered abrasions to his face and hands as a result of the altercation. The suspect was not injured,” he said.

Daniel Joseph TREMBLAY, a resident of Saanichton, who is a parolee, is charged with break and enter. His parole has been revoked and he is held in custody on fresh charges.
