TORONTO – A killer African snake and four other exotic reptile companions greeted Toronto Police when they went to a trouble call at an apartment.
Police said they found a deadly four-foot-long East African Gaboon Viper in one of the cages.
Startled cops called the zoo to take custody of the snakes.
The snakes were located in an apartment unit in the area of Queen Street East and Greenwood Avenue on Thursday.
The viper has a killer bite and the longest fangs. A grown man would die within 15 minutes from the snake’s venom if proper care is not available.
Toronto Police spokeswoman Const. Wendy Drummond said an investigation is continuing on how the viper came to be in Toronto.
“We don’t know what the zoo will be doing with the snakes at this time,” said Drummond.
