10-year-old girl killed in tragic Burnaby accident

BURNABY – A tragic accident has taken the life of a 10-year-old Coquitlam girl who was a passenger in a car which rear-ended a bus.

Burnaby RCMP spokeswoman Brenda Gresiuk said the accident occurred on Lougheed Highway and Production Way at around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

“A Coast Mountain Bus was traveling eastbound on Lougheed Hwy when it was rear ended by a vehicle,” she said.

“The 47-year-old driver, who was from Port Moody, had two small children in the vehicle with him,” she said.

“ The 11-year-old boy and the driver are being treated at a local hospital with non life threatening injuries,” said Gresiuk. “The 10-year-old girl was rushed to hospital but passed away a short while later in the hospital.”

“ Both the children were from Port Coquitlam and the family is requesting their privacy during this tragic time,” she said.

Accident investigators are looking at what caused the driver of the vehicle to smash into the back of the bus.
