RICHMOND, B.C. -  A Richmond woman was badly beaten up by thugs inside her home because they got mixed up about their intended target address.

Police believe the thugs went to the wrong home and beat up the woman in a case of mistaken identity.

A 51-year-old man initially telephoned police to report he had been approached by three masked men in the parking lot of the Parker Place Mall.

“ The males exited their vehicle and yelled, “RCMP” before restraining the victim and pushing him into their black SUV and departing the area,” said Cpl. Jennifer Pound.

“The suspects stole the victims belongings, including his keys, before releasing him at a different location. The victim was not injured. Police do not believe this was a random act. It appears that this male was targeted by the three suspects,” Pound said.

“Approximately 20 minutes later Richmond RCMP responded to a home invasion call in the 7000 block of St. Albans Rd. Three masked men entered an apartment, restrained the lone 30-year-old female and assaulted her. The female was taken to the hospital as she sustained facial injuries including a fractured cheek bone,” said the RCMP spokeswoman.

“It is believed the suspects were originally trying to enter the apartment of the male victim from the previous abduction but they entered the wrong apartment and the innocent female inside was assaulted as a result of their mix-up,” she added.

The Richmond Serious Crime Unit is actively investigating this incident and are asking anyone with any information to call the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 , or, if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
