Surrey man arrested, six kids used in porn rescued

By Salim Jiwa

SURREY – Six children aged between five and 11 have been rescued from a 36-year-old Surrey man who was allegedly making pornographic images to children known to him.

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Annie Linteau said five of the children known to the man are local while one is in Ontario. Police suggest the children were used in porn pictures or movies.

Five of the children are believed to be from Langley and Surrey, but RCMP will not confirm that and they will not go beyond describing them as “local.”

“This investigation conducted by the Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) Team with the assistance of Langley RCMP, Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Sexual Predator Observation Team (ISPOT), and the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre led to the rescue of six local children and one child residing in Ontario,” said Linteau.

“The children were between 5 and 11-years-old,” she said.

Linteau said the information that sparked the investigation came from an international source that alerted police to child pornography that was made using children known to someone who was circulating the images.

“The 36-year-old man was arrested for an outstanding warrant Thursday afternoon at the Surrey RCMP detachment after Crown approved a number of child pornography related charges against him,” she said.

“The charges include Sexual Assault, Invitation to Sexual Touching, Possession of Child Pornography, Distribution of Child Pornography, and Making Child Pornography,” Linteau added.

She said the investigation started on Jan. 22 when cops were tipped “from an international source claiming that the accused, and other individuals from around the world, were exchanging images and videos of sexual abuse of children known to them.”

“On January 22, 2010 police executed a search warrant at the Surrey residence which led to the seizure of electronic and computer devices that afforded evidence to support these charges,” she said.

Further arrests are likely.

“In order to protect the integrity of those investigations and to ensure that the children rescued are not victimized any further, no further information will be released,” she said.
