CALGARY – A 43-year-old man has been charged with first degree murder in the slaying of a woman who died in hospital shortly after being rescued by police and paramedics.

Yanrong Cheng, 41, of Calgary, was found in severe medical distress when cops attended a home in the city’s northwest over the weekend.

Police said the woman was assaulted at around 4:30 p.m. at a home in the unit-block of Edgehill Drive N.W. on Sunday. Police were called to a report of a collapsed woman.

“A woman was found in the residence in medical distress, and was transported to hospital by EMS. She died a short time later in hospital,” said police.

An autopsy confirmed she had been killed.
