Would you rather have the pine beetle ravage the rest of our forests. I believe part of it is getting rid of
the trees infested with this scourge. As for the trees, the lumber from those trees is attracting many
customers because of the blue streak left by the larva in it. Watershed is important, yes, and should
count but don't put false information out about the price of lumber, now. It has steadily climbed
as can be seen on the stock market reports, lately. This dispute should be local and outsiders
should keep their opinions to themselves or we will end up with a war between a State and
a Province over this! There are so many factors in this problem that I don't envy anyone trying
to solve it. Fighting over it and placing blockade is certainly not the way to come to a solution and
those doing it should be ashamed of themselves. Face to face discussions in a neutral area
is the only way to get your opinions and facts across. Insist on this and you will find your
solution. Others have.

I have land in Northern Alberta and if anyone thinks logging won't effect water, they need to get their head examined. The landowner to the north of my property cleared his 1/4 section of the mature forest and interrupted the surface water flow and now my swampy muskeg has completely dried up and all that wet land vegetation is dying. Two years later and even the big mature trees are dying and falling. And muskeg environments are natural water purifiers. Not on my land anymore. Now its turning into a forest fire hazard. Thanks neighbor!

Good article! Thank You. I have heard from reliable sources that trees down to 2 meters are included in the timber survey, sounds like they are making it out to be much more than it is. Tolko is arrogant enough to push people too far, they have already said a 2 week mill closure at the Armstrong mill is due to the situation, failing to mention that spring break up is here as well, which prevents logging anyway!! The log yard is much fuller than it has been for a very long time, so this also shows their manipulation of the truth. Of course the public will only believe what is fed to them by the local media, although many are in support of OKIB. Check out "Bouleau Lake" on Google Maps to see for yourselves. The only thing they survey is the timber volume available, they think nothing of the water storage capacity of intact forests or erosion affecting what water there is due to completely stripping the whole area, IT IS a dam mess up there. Respectfully submitted, Russell Cadotte in Vernon

In today's lumber market, this standing timber has a very small value, but Tolko is trying to ratchet up the price they want the government(s) to pay.

Desperate or Clever or both. Tolko appears to be quite prepared to start a war with the OIB, that their neighbours will have to live with, so long as Tolko achieves their objective; and it is not (necessarily) logging this watershed.
