Woman’s heart attack triggered Mission accidents
MISSION – Police suspect a woman suffered a heart attack while driving on Highway 7 – triggering a four-vehicle crash.
Police said they believe Mission resident Joan Rutz suffered a heart attack while she was driving west bound on Highway 7 at the intersection of Highway 11 at around 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
“At this time it is believed that Joan Rutz from Mission, suffered a heart attack causing her to lose control of her vehicle which set off a chain of collisions on Highway 7,” said Cpl. Raina Siou.
“Mission RCMP members initiated first aid to the driver until BC Ambulance Services were able to assume these duties. Mission Fire Services were also on scene and assisted,” said Siou.
The woman did not survive. Police did not disclose the victim’s age.
Other drivers and passengers involved in the crash suffered minor or no injuries.
The coroner is investigating.
