BRAMPTON – Peel Regional Police in Ontario have seized $2.5 million worth of Doda.
Three search warrants were executed on Monday in Brampton, Toronto and Mississauga. While searching the properties investigators found over 200 boxes which contained 1,282 kilograms of Doda.
Constable George Tudos, Peel Regional Police, said that Doda is fairly new to Ontario but has been around for thousands of years in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
“We have arrested who we believe is the main Doda supplier in the area,” Tudos said. “The boxes were labeled from Arizona, but from where they came before that is unclear.”
Doda according to Tudos is used as a social drug.
“Doda is not on the back alleys but in living rooms. It’s not really on the street level. We have seen a slight increase of arrests but because of the nature of the use of the drug there haven’t been that much word about it.”
Bhagat Singh, a 46-year-old Brampton man, has been arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking. Singh appears in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Doda may have been around in the Middle East for thousands of years but in Canada information about the drug is hard to come by. Bellwoods, an addiction centre in Toronto had not heard of the drug. That was also the case at CAMH where not even the pharmacist knew what the drug was.
