Parents arrested over Future Shop theft

Do you know this family? Future Shop surveillance photo.

RICHMOND – A man and a woman from Coquitlam have been arrested for theft under $5,000 following a public release of pictures showing two adults walking out of Future Shop pushing a stroller that cops say was loaded with stolen DVDs.

The surveillance photos released by cops showed two little children walking alongside the couple as they exited Future Shop.

Police said the two children are currently in the care of their grandparents. The ministry of children and families has been advised.

“The couple were released on promise to appear documents with a court appearance date of May 27,” said Cpl. Jennifer Pound.

Flabbergasted cops had earlier said the couple loaded up a baby stroller with $3,000 worth of videos and nonchalantly walked out of a Richmond Future Shop store – without paying.

Pound said the two people were seen on surveillance cameras stuffing about 100 Blu-Ray and DVD videos into a child’s stroller as their children pointed out what they wanted.

Cops had released surveillance photos of the couple and their children in the hope someone would recognize them.

Pound labelled her  press release: “Richmond – Parents of the Year Award.”

“The Richmond RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man and woman who, while with their children, stole property from Future Shop,” she said earlier.

“On March 3, 2010 a man and women entered a Future Shop located in Richmond and walked around the store with their young children. The children picked out which movies they wanted to have and the parents loaded them into the child’s stroller,” said Pound.

“Approximately 80-100 blu-ray and dvd videos were taken with a value of over $3000,” said Pound.

Pound thanked members of the public for the tips they sent in.
