Lethal combination of drugs and booze killed two teens

RICHMOND – Two young friends who died hours apart in Burnaby and Richmond had a lethal quantity of drugs and booze inside them according to toxicology reports seen by cops.

Martha Jackson Hernandez, 17, and Kayla LaLonde, 16, died five hours apart on March 2 after being out during the night.

The RCMP’s serious crimes unit is investigating the possibility of laying  criminal charges against whoever gave the two girls the fatal drugs and booze.

“The toxicology results have been reviewed and it appears the cause of death for both girls is a lethal combination of alcohol and drugs,” said Cpl. Jennifer Pound.

“The Richmond and Burnaby RCMP Serious Crime Units are continuing to investigate this matter to determine the details of events leading up to their deaths. Further details into the investigation are not being released so as to protect the integrity of the investigation,” she said.

“ When dealing with the use of drugs – no amount is a safe amount,” she said. “We urge people to stay away from using drugs as everyone will react differently to the effects of them particularly when mixed with alcohol.”

Hundreds of youngsters mourned the deaths of Facebook.

The shocking deaths came to light one by one less than five hours apart.

Police were first called to the side of the road in the 4000-block of Rumble Street in Burnaby shortly after midnight on Tuesday (12:40 a.m.). Motorists stopped to assist the 16-year-old but she did not survive.

A few hours later, Richmond RCMP were called to a home in Richmond over a report of a 17-year-old in medical distress.
