Alberta snowmobiler killed in B.C. accident

CLEARWATER, B.C. – A 34-year-old snowmobiler from Vegreville, Alberta has died following an accident near Finn Creek, south of Blue River.

“A group of approximately 15 snowmobilers were riding near Finn Creek in the Messister Summit area when one rider was noted to be missing,” said Cpl. Chris Newel.

“He was found about 20 minutes later under his machine and snow,” he said.

The other team members who found him began CPR and requested medical attention. Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing out of Blue River sent a helicopter and a doctor but efforts to revive him failed.

It is believed the rider hit a tree and went down into a tree well. His machine came down on top of him along with the surrounding snow, said the cop about the Saturday afternoon accident.

Finn Creek in the Messister Summit area is a popular snowmobiling area.

It is located approximately 20 kilometres south of Blue River and 200 kilometres north of Kamloops.

There was another snowmobiling accident in the same area in March. But the victim survived.
