Los Angeles pedestrian killed in freak accident
LOS ANGELES – A freak accident killed a pedestrian when a light signal struck by a car fell on him as he stood at an intersection.
“Early this morning at around 3:15 a.m., 27-year-old Jasen Jack, a resident of Atlanta Georgia, was driving southbound on Western Avenue in a 2008 Dodge Caliber when his car ran off of the road and hit a traffic signal,” police said.
“The impact of the crash caused the signal to hit a pedestrian standing on the northwest corner of Western Avenue and Pico Boulevard,” cops said about the Sunday morning crash.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
“Detectives say that the suspect appeared to display symptoms of being under the influence and was subsequently taken into custody,” said a statement.
Police have not identified the victim pending notification of relatives.
