By Karen Mullins
TORONTO – A woman scooter rider lay unconscious in the middle of the road on Tuesday after her ride went out of control and was then struck by a car.
The accident occurred after the scooters wheels skidded on street car tracks on Tuesday afternoon.
The driver of the car said at the scene that she had been driving slowly to avoid the scooter when it lost control and crashed. She said it was then that her car struck the scooter at Queen East and Sherboure Street.
“All I know is the lady fell from her bike and the bike skid right into my car and I hit the bike.”
The police obtained a statement from her as paramedics worked on the scooter rider and took her to hospital.
One eyewitness who did not give his name said that the “scooter got in the grooves of the streetcar track. That threw the woman off of the scooter. The scooter then went into the car.”
The woman’s condition could not be determined.
