Man charged in violent sex attack on sleeping Surrey girl

SURREY, B.C. – Police have arrested a man who allegedly broke into a home and sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl who was sleeping in her room in Guildford.

The frightening night time attack had prompted police to issue a public warning.

The nine-year-old was attacked at 3:45 a.m. inside her home in Guildford on April 23.

Const. Peter Neily said RCMP arrested 36-year-old Kyle Berkson who now faces serious charges that include break and enter and sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching.

Neily said Berkson is to make a court appearance on Monday.

“The Surrey RCMP report that there is no further risk to the public related to this offence,” he said.

“The members of the Surrey RCMP worked tirelessly to ensure that public safety was maintained following this incident, while conducting a thorough investigation into this serious offence,” Neily added.
