Speed likely cause of fatal Colwood bike crash

COLWOOD – A motorcyclist who failed to negotiate a curve on the road and then slammed into a rock face was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at around 8:40 p.m. in the 600-block of Latoria Road and no other vehicle was involved.

“As West Shore RCMP Officers arrived on scene it was determined a motorcycle had failed to negotiate a curve in the road and had gone off the roadway, striking a rock face,” said Julie Chanin.

“The operator, and single occupant of the motorcycle had sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Despite the efforts of bystanders and emergency personnel, the man, a 50-year-old Colwood resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Speed may have been a factor in the crash but an accident investigation is continuing.
