Six NATO troops killed in Kabul suicide blast

KABUL – Six NATO soldiers and numerous civilians have been killed in a suicide attack on a U.S. convoy on Darulman Road in Kabul on Tuesday morning.

At least five American military vehicles and a dozen civilian vehicles were demolished.

“Six international servicemembers were killed and several wounded when a suicide vehicle-born improvised explosive device exploded near an ISAF convoy and civilian vehicles travelling on Darulaman Road in Kabul this morning,” the International Security Assistance Force, ISAF said in a statement issued in Afghanistan.

At least five of the dead troops are American.

“Numerous Afghan civilians were also killed and injured in the indiscriminate attack,” said ISAF.

“The injured have been evacuated to medical treatment facilities.”

“ISAF strongly condemns the attack on civilians and ISAF Forces. This sort of desperate brutality and aggression reminds us of the pessimism of an enemy who seek to kill the innocent and to stop the progress necessary for a better Afghanistan. This will not deter us from our mission of securing a better future for this country,” said Brig. Gen. Josef Blotz.

The explosion additionally damaged five ISAF vehicles and more than a dozen civilian vehicles.

ISAF is assisting the Afghan National Security Forces in securing the area and investigating the incident.

The United Nations and NATO headquarters condemned the attack during the morning rush hour.

“This senseless violence and killing of innocent civilians and those working together with Afghans in bringing stability to this country should be brought to an end,” Staffan de Mistura, the U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Representative, said in a statement.
