Tub theft lands man in hot water with cops in Langley
LANGLEY – A man is in hot water with the cops for stealing a hot tub.
Cops said they found a bizarre scene unfolding as a patrolman came across a flatbed truck carrying a hot tub.
“Shortly past 4:30 p.m. on May 30th, a general duty member on routine patrol came across a flat deck truck carrying a hot tub in the 26000 block of Fraser Highway. Following the truck was a second vehicle whose occupant indicated the hot tub was in fact his, and had been stolen,” said Cpl. Holly Marks.
“Virtually simultaneously, the hot tub owner had called police to report the theft. He advised he had been in his warehouse in the 3300 block of 262 Street when he heard a loud bang near the front of the store. He went to investigate and was alerted to someone stealing the showcase hot tub in front of the business.”
“The officer followed the truck which was driving erratically, as it turned a corner; the hot tub fell off the truck. The truck and occupants were located in the 80- block of 256 Street,” she said about the comedy of errors made by the thief.
Marks said the driver showed signs of impairment and was given a breathalyzer test. It turned out it was twice the legal limit.
‘Police will recommend charges of Impaired Driving, Drive over .08, Theft over $5000, and Drive While Prohibited to Crown Counsel for the driver, a 22-year-old Langley man,” she said.
