Motorist dies in Vancouver accident

VANCOUVER – A 59-year-old Surrey man was killed Saturday afternoon when the car he was driving crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle in the 4900-block of Oak Street.

“A 51-year-old female passenger in the car suffered minor injuries and the 53-year-old female driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive,” said VPD spokeswoman Const. Jana McGinness.

“At this early stage in the investigation, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.”

The VPD Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact investigators at 604-717-3012.

This is Vancouver’s 5th traffic fatality of 2010, said McGuinnes.
