Woman stabbed during purse snatching incident

SURREY, B.C. – A Surrey woman was stabbed and the suspect tried to strangle her while stealing her purse shortly after midnight, police said on Saturday morning.

The woman was attacked by a man while she was walking home at around 12:45 a.m. Police said the incident occurred near 132 A Avenue and 109 Street.

“The suspect attempted to strangle the victim before stabbing her and stealing her purse,” said a cop.

“The suspect then fled the scene while the victim walked to her house where her son called the police. Surrey RCMP were in the area on another call and were at the victim’s residence within one minute after receiving the call,” said a statement.

“The victim gave a description of the suspect who was located by a Surrey RCMP member a few blocks away from the scene. The suspect , who is known to the police, was arrested and the victim’s purse was located in his possession. The victim’s injuries are not life threatening and the suspect is currently being held in custody.”
