Teenager killed in single vehicle Nanaimo crash
NANAIMO, B.C. – A teenager is dead following a single vehicle accident and police say speed and failure to wear a seat belt were contributing factors in his death.
Police were called to the intersection of Nanaimo Parkway and Jingle Pot Road at around 4:30 a.m. where a 2004 Ford Freestar mini van had struck a cement barrier, crossed two lanes of traffic and then coming to a rest in a grassy area.
‘From preliminary examination, it is believed speed and non use of a seat belt were contributing factors. There were no indicators alcohol played a factor in the crash. Members have contacted family members but will not be releasing the name of the deceased until there has been a positive identification made” said Const. Gary O’Brien.
The youth was 18. The north-bound lane of Nanaimo Parkway was closed for several hours.
