Cougar warning in Maple Ridge
MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. – Conservation officers are hunting for a cougar after an attack on livestock on Tuesday morning.
While cops don’t think the cougar will attack humans, they have issued a general warning – just in case.
The cougar was seen in the area of 11900-block of 256 Street on Tuesday morning – in an area known as Webster’s Corner.
“Conservation has informed me that cougars are not likely to attack humans, but we want to keep everyone safe, so we urge people to be aware of a cougar in the area, and to keep their distance.” said Inspector Derren Lench.
“Residents who own animals, pets or livestock, should take proper precautions for their safety. If a cougar is spotted you can notify us, or Conservation, as soon as possible as to where the sighting took place. With warmer weather upon us, these sightings become more time sensitive for the tracking dogs to be effective.”
Anyone who observes a cougar on their property, they can call Ridge Meadows RCMP at PH# 604 463-6251, or B.C. Conservation at PH# 1-877-952-7277.
