Speed, alcohol blamed in fiery fatal crash in Calgary
CALGARY – A car racing down on Canyon Meadows Drive lost control, struck a power pole and erupted into flames killing the driver who was the sole occupant.
Police said the fiery crash at the intersection with Bottom Trail S.E. occurred at 11:21 p.m. on Tuesday.
“A green Acura Integra was traveling East on Canyon Meadows Drive at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a traffic signal post. The impact was extremely severe and a fire began immediately which fully engulfed the vehicle.
“The 25-year-old driver and lone occupant was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said.
Speed and Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, cops stated.
The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating and is asking for anyone that may have witnessed the incident to contact Sergeant Daran Wood at 403-567-4000.
