Team B.C. to play for bronze after 33-2 loss to Saskatchewan
WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Team BC, the British Columbia provincial under-18 football team, will play Nova Scotia in the bronze medal game of the 2010 Football Canada Cup. BC clinched a spot in the bronze medal game following a 33-2 loss to Team Saskatchewan on Wednesday in their semifinal contest at Raymond Field on the campus of Acadia University.
The bronze medal game takes place on Saturday, July 17 at 4 p.m. local time in Nova Scotia (12 p.m. Pacific Time).
For the second game in a row on Wednesday, BC spotted their opponent a sizeable lead heading into half-time trailing 24-0 to Saskatchewan. Unlike Sunday’s tournament opening contest where BC managed to rally from an 18-3 half-time deficit to defeat Ontario East by a 27-18 final, they were unable to mount a similar comeback in the second half of Wednesday’s tilt versus Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan dominated statistically in total offense yards with 250 versus just 98 for BC although Saskatchewan also got some major scores off special teams plays with two of Saskatchewan’s three first half touchdowns scored by special teams off fumble recoveries in BC’s end zone. BC’s only score of the game came off a safety conceded by Saskatchewan in the third quarter.
RB Stephen Spagnuolo (Notre Dame) was named Team BC’s offensive player of the game. LB Buddy Hutchison (Seaquam) was named Team BC’s defensive player of the game.
