Drug lifestyle ended Mandy Johnson’s life in rural Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The gang and drug road to ruin has claimed a young woman’s life in an early morning shooting on Wednesday in an isolated area of Abbotsford.

Cpl. Dale Carr of IHIT identified the young gun victim as 22-year-old Mandy Astin Johnson of Langley.

“This is yet another young person that has been murdered in the Lower Mainland by what seems like her involvement with the drug trade, the community need to be outraged by this and young people have to begin to realize that this lifestyle is extremely dangerous often leading to death,” said Carr in a sombre statement.

“Certainly we can agree that nobody deserves this fate,” he added.

Police received a shots fired report to the area of Polar Road and Townline Road at 3 a.m. They also had reports of a car fleeing the scene at high speed as well as several rounds being fired.

When cops arrived at the scene, Mandy was already dead. Her male companion was uninjured. The car the two had driven to the scene was also found at the location.

“The male was not physically harmed in the shooting. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to take charge of the homicide investigation. Throughout the day IHIT investigators went door to door in the area to speak with neighbours to see what if anything they could offer to assist the investigation,” said Carr.

Police don’t have evidence to support a media-floated notion that she was not the intended target.

“Mandy was known to the police. Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding this homicide to step forward to assist them,” said Carr.

“Although there has been some speculation that Mandy was not the intended target of this murder investigators have not gather the facts or evidence at this point to conclusively support that theory,” Carr added.

” Police are working through a complete profile of all of the victims known associates and will likely come knocking in the coming days,” he said.

How much help Mandy’s male companion has been, or whether he is under protection, has not been revealed.

So far, cops have also not released the description of suspects or the vehicle they fled in.

Police initially kept quiet about the gender of the victim in the hope of keeping the suspects guessing as to whether they had hit the right target. However, word leaked out the victim was a female and that began the speculation that she could not have been the target of the shooting.
